Weltevrede Fig Farm

Weltevrede Fig Farm

Prince Albert, Western Cape, South Africa
Self-catering
(POA)

Here lies five self-catering guesthouses, in a valley at the foothills of the mighty Swartberg Mountains: where gigantic blue gums tell the stories of forgotten treasures, forgotten times. A place where the Bushmen left their history on the walls, where Willows hang their weary heads and winds whisper ancient secrets, ancient songs.

Our on site coffee and gift shop provides you with the most delicious home made fig preserves as well gifts to buy. Make sure you taste our famous fig tart! In summer the pools provides relief from the heat and beckons you to take a midnight swim. Each house has a private pool except Klein de Hoek. In winter decadent fireplaces or ancient black stoves make for a cosy stay.

On the farm you can view the fig harvesting in season ( End of Jan to end of Apr). We are a popular cycle destination, with lots of roads to explore. You can walk up into the Kloof and experience the majestic mountains close-up. And of course, the favourite activity is stoep-sit!

Activities for visitors include a guided historical walk through the town ( enquire from the Tourism Bureau), a ramble along the "Gordon's koppie", a ghost walk in the evening, star tours, trips into the Swartberg Pass, a visit to the Prince Albert Gallery, where numerous South African artists display their work, local shops, the weavery, traditional Karoo meals, and a visit to the delightful Fransie Pienaar Museum where a local farmer distills "Witblits".

WELTEVREDE FIG FARM REVIEWS (100%)
Uncluttered and serene by

A 100 year old unpretentious lodge on a rocky ledge overlooking a vast valley. The sky is clear and blue, and the air is crisp and fresh. Off the grid, they said. Add to that, silence, as you hear nothing but the sound of your own breathing. The horizon is a scribble indicating the distant mountains. 10 minutes before sunset the sky changes into a majestic display of colours as it drowns in variants of grey before blacking out totally allowing the evening star to shows its face. An expansive verandah presents many options to enjoy your sundowner, coffee or mid-afternoon siesta. The lodge is fitted with state-of-the-art finishing ? fall in love with the beautiful kitchen and find use for the lovely Smegg gas oven, beautiful crockery and a paraffin fridge to ensure your off the grid braaivleis does not, well go off the grid. Make sure you arrive in a 4x4 or accept the farm manager's drop off offer as the road up the rocky ledge is a challenge. O and when checking in, visit the farm shop and stock up on the mouthwatering dried figs, fig jam and fig chutney, olive oil and local crafts because once you snuggle in, there's no going back.
